Ekanayake has been predominantly the leading character in the welding industry for many years where many professional bodies and government institutions accept his certification for welder qualifications. U. Ekanayake was trained and obtained certification from the welding institute UK in Nondestructive testing and welding inspection and he is a long holding member of the American welding society, a certified welding inspector recognize by the welding institute UK and the American welding society. He has served at the State engineering corporation as a Sr. mechanical superintendent and later he has provided he services in abroad projects and several major Hydropower power, thermal power and petroleum industry projects in Sri Lanka and abroad with the certification and preparation of procedures. Furthermore, he was a resource person for the development of curriculum in the welding field for Turshari & vocational education commission in Sri Lanka.
